DG LION NIGHT'S MESSAGE FOR THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER 2014

Dear Fellow Lions and Leos,

I would like to thank the Almighty God for granting us good health to continue Strengthening the Pride through service with care.

I wish to register my appreciation to each Cabinet and District Officer who attended and contributed to the success of  our 1st Cabinet meeting. To the hosting Clubs under the Leadership of Region Chairperson  Region D, I thank you for all the arrangements.

Two and a half months in the office I have continued to receive your support to achieve the set goals. However the task ahead of us is big. I wish to echo what our International President Joe Preston has tasked each Lion to JUST 

ASK 1.

As we move towards Centennial celebrations we need to strengthen our district. We are required to JUST ASK service minded men and women to join our organization.

Club Secretaries are urged to report all activities performed to LCI as most them are not reported. Success is not determined by our position in life but by the obstacles we overcome to be get there.

Let us create a positive mind to succeed our tasks. With our determination and team work we will succeed in achieving our goals of service with care to our Communities. I thank you all and God bless.

Centennial Service Challenge! - HAPPY BIRTHDAY LITTLE NEEMA SING PWANI LIONS

Lions Club of Pwani celebrated Neema's Birthday on 14th September at the Salvation Army.

Neema is a Class 3 pupil who is a handicap. Lions found that to celebrate a moment with her would walk the happiness she deserves.

Lion Reshma also celebrated her Birthday on the same day.

LIONS OF KUMI CENTRAL WORKING TOWARDS BLOOD DONATION

High prevalence of Malaria and anaemia in Children is the main cause of infant death in Uganda. Maternal death arising from  bleeding during child birth are common, let alone high rates of accidents that cause much bleeding and later death. Blood is in short supply.Lions Club of Kumi Central noted the need and has arranged to hold  a blood donation day on 20TH, September, 2014 in Kumi Town.

The blood donation activity is planned together with the recently chartered Leo Clubs, the Community and the Regional Blood Bank Office. We wish to take this opportunity to bring the young people together so they can learn, grow and serve.

Donating Blood and Banking it will save many lives. Its the commitment of Lions Club of Kumi Central to make a contribution to this noble call. Yesterdays club meeting managed to raise over shillings 820.000 to wards the costs of the activity.

Reading Action Program, Engaging Youth and Relieving Hunger by Pwani Club

On 14th September, Pwani celebrated Literacy day at Matumaini School run by the Salvation Army. The school is a home to 200 disabled children. The children are aged 7 – 15 years old pursuing their primary education. 

The school had its standard 7 graduation ceremony which graduated 28 students. The curriculum at the school is the same as all the other schools in the country. The teachers teaching at the school are from the government schools. The students are taught to read both English and Kiswahili.

The activity was graced by Chief Guest ZC Lion Lehrikant Shah, Personal Assistant to the DG Lion Rizwan, District Chairperson Lion Sara Qadri and District Convenor for Children Lion Pushpa Shah. The 2nd VP Lion Rabia and Convenor Lion Reshma both explained to the pupils and school management that Lions were happy to provide the necessary services that would bring smile to the children.

The children were excited to see the members. The kids sang to the songs and danced to it. The kids enjoyed the stories read out to them by Lion Sima Mittal. Football was the centre of attraction where the children enjoyed playing football in their field with the Lion members.

Pwani Club donated 500 books including encyclopaedias, story books, educational books and fairy tales, 200 exercise books and 200 pens for the children. 

In order to give the kids some time for recreation the club donated 2 footballs, 2 play station games, PowerPoint training DVDs, Printer, computer game, UNO cards and some toys for them to enjoy with. 

To provide their school with a colorful surrounding the club donated 2 paintings and 1 Peace Poster artwork duly framed. 

The club celebrated a Lion Reshma’s birthday at the school with the less fortunate and donated cake, biscuits and juices to the kids. Pwani thanked its donors for all the things that were donated in kind. The total cost of the activity was TZS 4,000,000.00.

The Children enjoyed and dispersed to their rooms with smiles on their faces. The club thanked Ms. Elizabeth Gainsford and Ms. Ann Christell for facilitating the activities. 

The School teachers thanked Convenor Lion Reshma Shah and her team for recognizing the needs of the children.

AZANIA'S ENVIRONMENT PROJECT BEAUTIFIES MWANYANYAMALA HOSPITAL

On 14th September 2014, Lions club of Dar es Salaam Azania went to clean external environment of Mwananyamala Regional Hospital. 

This was attended by 3 members and 2 prospective members. A total of TShs 590,000 was spent and Lions recorded 12 service hours. Service reached about 300 patients who use this hospital at a time.

Cleaning was done by lions themselves and sponsored by HPM Cleaning Company.

AZANIA VISITS NUNGE VILLAGE FOR HEALTH OUTREACH PROGRAMME

On 16th August 2014, Lions Club of Dar es Salaam Azania visited the house of elders located at Kigamboni area for medical screening, reproductive health short seminar to youths, dental health talk followed by provision of toothpastes and toothbrushes to the elders and lastly we had dinner with the whole community of Nunge village.

A total of 1,380,000 was contributed and  1,036,200 used to accomplish the activity.

A total of 62 patients were provided with medical consultation and screened for diabetes, malaria and hypertension. 48 of them being elders from the house and 14 residents from a neighbouring village. 

While getting ready for check up, a dentist had a talk with the elders about the best way to take care of their teeth. Toothpastes and toothbrushes were given to each elder.

23 youth were also given a short lecture about a healthy reproductive life. How to protect themselves from sexual transmitted diseases and how to do family planning.

We later had lunch with Nunge house residents (more than 120) and their care takers. 

A total of 8 Lions and 3 prospective members physically attended and the activities took 40 hours.

We were also accompanied by doctors from PENIEL organisation.

AMANI CLUB DISTRIBUTES 2 SEWING MACHINES TOWARD THEIR POVERTY ALLEVIATION PROGRAMME

Amani club on 14th September distributed 2 Sewing Machines to Two widows of NGO called Women Empowerment Organisation of Tanzania at The Alcove Restaurant.

The Chief Guest FVDG Lion Hyderali Gangji handed one Machine to Hamida Hamisi and second one was handed over by the RC Lion Shiraz Rashid to Mariam Yusuf. 

 These machines were worth TShs 320,000.00. 

Members present  were 12. The National Chairperson of this NGO Farida Khakoo witness this event .
