POSTPONEMENT OF IMR CAMPAIGN TO 18TH – 24TH OCTOBER 2014

DEAR LION LEADERS AND MY FELLOW LIONS,

This is indeed heart breaking news for the Lions fraternity of TANZANIA to be informed by Program Manager Immunization and Vaccines Development (IVD) Dr. Dafrossa Lyimo of Ministry of Health & Social Welfare on 5^th September 2014 at 5 p.m. that the scheduled IMR Campaign slated for September 2014 has been postponed to start on 18^th – 24^th October 2014.

Despite our full preparedness, as we have already printed posters, fliers, Booklets, Banners (clothe & PVC) T-shirts, Caps etc for the social mobilization & Promotion anticipated to commence on 8^th September 2014 after the shipment of all mentioned materials to the reach the Regional clubs on 7^th September 2014. We are left with no option accept to follow the instructions from Ministry of Health & Social Welfare.

I, on behalf of the core-committee ask you to bear with what has transpired and we shall be updating further development pertaining to IMR Campaign.

I would request all co-convenors & Zone chairpersons to forward this message to all club Presidents and the members for their knowledge.

Peace Poster Contest - ANNUAL ART CONTEST

Annual Art Contest for Kids

Each year, Lions clubs around the world proudly sponsor the Lions International Peace Poster Contest in local schools and youth groups. This art contest for kids encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace. For more than 25 years, millions of children from nearly 100 countries have participated in the contest.

The theme of the 2014-15 Peace Poster Contest is "Peace, Love and Understanding."Students, ages 11, 12 or 13 on November 15, are eligible to participate.

DATES AND DEADLINES

• January 15: Kits go on sale from the Club Supplies Sales Department at International Headquarters.

• October 1: Deadline to purchase kits from the Club Supplies Sales Department at International Headquarters.

• November 15: Postmark deadline for a club to send one winning poster (per contest sponsored) to the district governor.

• December 1: Postmark deadline for a Governor to send one winning district poster to multiple district council chairperson.

• December 1: Postmark deadline for a Governor not belonging to a multiple district to send one winning poster to the Public Relations Department at International Headquarters.

• December 1: Postmark deadline for a Club not belonging to a district to send one winning entry to the Public Relations Department at International Headquarters.

• December 15: Postmark deadline for the multiple district council chairperson to send one winning poster to the Public Relations Department at International Headquarters.

• February 1: International winners notified on or before this date.

Ugandan elected to head Lions Club International Publish on July 28, 2014 Newvison

A Ugandan has been installed as District Governor for Lions Club International to represent the country and Tanzania.

Night Ndyarugahi was installed at a colourful ceremony held at the Lions International convention in Toronto, Canada. The new district governor will head District 411B that comprises of Uganda and Tanzania for one year. Speaking on arrival at Entebbe International Airport on Friday, Ndyarugahi said that she will crusade on environment protection given the fact that climate change has become a topical issue globally.

“I will address climate change issues by encouraging fellow Lions and the communities to plant trees in environment protection,” Ndyarugahi told journalists shortly after arrival at Entebbe International Airport.

“I am going to embark on recruiting new members out of the population of 34 million Ugandans to join hands to improve the lives of less fortunate in society,” she said.

The new district governor who has been undergoing training in Toronto, Canada for one month said she has got the leadership skills and will propel the club to greater heights.

She said she will also apply skills in conflict resolution to help those who are involved in conflicts.

Ndyarugahi, a teacher by profession who was accompanied by her husband Polly Karimari Ndyarugahi has  served Lions Club for over 30 years.

LIONS OF ARUSHA ASSIST AFTER SURGERY CHILDREN

Lions Club of Arusha visited Plaster House on 2nd July 2014 in Garamtoni Township 20 kilometres from Arusha. Plaster House is the post surgery centre where children are looked after surgeries.
Lions Club of Arusha donated food stuff worth TShs. 550,000/- to the Plaster House.

PWANI CLUBS' ENGAGING YOUTH AND TREE PLANTING ACTIVITY

The Lions Club of Dar es Salaam Pwani held tree plantation, Reading Action Programme and Floor Mats donation activity on 14th August 2014 at Mbuyuni Primary School.

This call to local youth was part of the Engaging our Youth Service Campaign, a Lions global campaign taking place during the month of August during which club members helped to promote voluntarism and engage young people. The site survey was done by Lion Pushpa Shah with the help of Mr. Paskal – English Teacher and Librarian at Mbuyuni Primary School. 

150 books for the library were donated and read out with 70 students. Ten trees were donated and planted at the school. 8 floor mats were donated for the students’ library. The Convenor explained the students the importance of reading to enhance their knowledge. Students enjoyed the books while the teachers thanked the Club for the generous activity towards the environment and youth of the country. 

The total cost of the activity was TZS 1,085,000.00.

DG PRAISES LIONS OF KUMI CENTRAL FOR WORTHWHILE PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES

During the visit of the DG Lion Night to Lions Club of Kumi Central on 22nd August, 2014 the following were carried out:

1. Induction of  new Lion Member, Lion Sam Okudi a product of Ask One Campaign
2. Interaction with Police and Lions on visit to the Police Station whose renovation is being spearheaded by Kumi Central.
3. Visit to the Lions Club of Kumi signature project, we have planted tree on an 11 acre piece of land
4. Launch of Lions Quest  Programme and induction of  three Leo Clubs.
5. Visit to the orphanage and handing over materials for the girl children donated by Lions Club of Kumi Central.
