MY DEAR FELLOW LIONS,

I trust this e-mail finds you in best of your health and the will of Strengthening the Pride of our District 411B by increasing more Quality members through SERVICE WITH CARE.

I strongly believe, there is immense untapped areas in our locality awaiting to be unleashed and the eventuality of Lions meaningful human activities and projects are drawing the attention of General Public to crave for joining the Lions Club. This is a unique opportunity for all of us to earn Lions pride by increasing more members and chartering new clubs.

We are partially getting complacented with a little but better progress this month in terms of membership growth. Looking at the October 2014 Club’s Health Assessment it is satisfying to note that now we can see and feel some Rays of Hope of salvaging our District from Danger with a Minor positive Net Growth of 42 members, compare to last month’s Report – Congratulations. As of 30th October 2014, the strength of our District stands at 1244 members with 42 Clubs.

But my dear fellow Lions, despite the little gain we have achieved in membership growth doesn’t mean that we sit back and relish our achievements. I would want you to throw a little glance at the District Governor’s Recap whereby you will find 10 Clubs in UGANDA and 5 Club in TANZANIA are at the greater Risk of STATUS-QUO and Cancellation, because of the delay in payment of the International Dues. These clubs are as under:-

I am forwarding to you both – the Club Health Assessment and District Governor’s Recap for your kind perusal and prompt action. The sub-Treasurer both in Uganda & Tanzania are requested to make a keen follow up.

HETTSTEDT LIONS SEEK FURTHER TWINNING WITH PWANI LIONS TO ASSIST THE BLIND

Lions Club of Dar es Salaam Pwani had Fellowship dinner with Lions Club of Hettstedt, Germany on the 3rd of November 2014 at Alcove Restaurant.

Lion Sebastian Bartsch, Secretary of the Lions of Club of Hettstedt donated 20 white cane Sticks for the Blind and 300 pairs of reading glasses. The total cost of the items was noted at TShs 3,500,000.00

The Convenor, Lion Rizwan expressed his clubs appreciation as he introduced the members and advised on the need to work jointly on many projects in the country.

Lions club of Dar es Salaam Pwani appreciated the generous support and is looking forward to provide help to those in need of these valuable items through a Twinning Activity that has been planned for December this year.

The Club from Germany was represented by 6 Lion members and 2 Guests while there were 9 Pwani Lions who attended the fellowship. "This being our 4th joint activity in Tanzania, I am proud to note that our relationship has increased from emails friendship to joining hands in service," said Lion Sebastian.  He also mentioned that their Club was looking for a long term assistance to a Kindergarten in Iringa and would like to be associated with Pwani Club.

"I have works of commendation for Hettstedt to chose to work with Pwani Club, and with all sincerity we will carry out robust activities that will target the vulnerable in the country," said President Lion Collin.

PWANI CLUB CELEBRATE WORLD SERVICE DAY AT MUHIMBILI HOSPITAL

On 12th October 2014, Lions Club of DSM Pwani commemorated World Service Day. This activity was held at Muhimbili Hospital in "Caring for Children in Tanzania Ward" consisting of 115 children. These were children with cancer in different parts of the body.

The club distributed cakes, bread, biscuits, juices and water to these children. The activity was graced by the Regional Chairperson Lion Shiraz Rashid, Zone Chairperson Lion Lehrikant Shah, District Convenor for World Service Day Lion Talib Yusufali, District Chairperson Lion Natu Bhardwaj and Personal Assistant to DG Lion Rizwan Qadri.

This was the day when the club members witnessed kids in real need! It was painful to see them in the condition but on the other side Lions were glad that they were able to serve them.

WORLD SIGHT DAY AT MNAZI MMOJA GROUNDS PROVIDE RELIEF TO OVER 700 PEOPLE SAY PWANI CLUB

To celebrate World Sight Day, on 10th October 2014, Lions Club of Dar es Salaam Pwani joined hands with the Ministry of health and Social Welfare, Welfare Association of Pakistan, Stanbic Bank, Municipalities of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania Ophthalmology Society and other stake holders  in focusing on bringing attention on blindness and vision impairment at Mnazi Mmoja Grounds.

The theme was "Universal Eye Health" and the call to action was "No more Blindness due to Diabetes Mellitus".

A total of 500 people were screened for sight and 150 people were screened for Diabetes. The club provided spectacles to 224 people and medicines to numerous patients. Cases of 36 Cataracts and 3 Glaucoma were referred to the national Hospital to be carried out free of cost.

During the occasion, the Chief Guest Hon. Richard  Mushi, Ilala District Commissioner appreciated the efforts by stakeholders in the drive to eliminate preventable blindness.

The clubs can even sponsor the aspiring candidates fully or partially for the required fares, if the club funds permit.

It is highly important to have maximum participation from Tanzania and take full advantage of this important leadership training.

Lions Mzizima Annual Play for Sight Golf Tournament.

Mzizima Lions Club carried out their Annual Play for Sight Golf Tournament Fund Raising event at Lugalo Golf Course Ground on 19th October 2014. The event raised TShs 70ml.

The Club has been carrying Fund Raising through golfing activity annually and has seen a steady increase in participants and amount of cash collected. "This years collection has surpassed the target set. Club members have shown immense cooperation so as to realise this enormous amount, " said Lion Bhavin.
