98th Annual Lions Clubs International Convention Friday, June 26 – Tuesday, June 30, 2015 • Honolulu, Hawaii

Dear Lions,

Welina mai kākou ! Welcome! On behalf of the Lions and Leos of District 50 Hawaii, we are honored to welcome you to the 98th Lions Clubs International Convention to be held in Honolulu, Hawaii, from June 26 to 30, 2015.

From the soaring cliffs of the Napali Coast on Kauai in the West, to the fiery glow of Kilauea Crater on the slopes of Mauna Loa, on the Island of Hawaii to the East, and all points between, there is no place on earth like Hawaii, a place we are so fortunate to call our home.

Honolulu, the capitol city on the island of Oahu, is the vibrant epicenter of our State with some of Hawaii's most historic places nearby. The arts and culture, dining, shopping, entertainment and nightlife - you'll find it all in Honolulu. From its food, to its people, Hawaii and Honolulu in particular, is a study in diversity - a fusion of East and West, a blending of indigenous and imported cultures.

Whether paying solemn tribute at the USS Arizona Memorial, or reliving the regal splendor of Hawaii's past at I'olani Palace; listening to the ancient chants as they dance hula kahiko, or dancing to the music of our "next Bruno Mars" in Waikiki; dining on Hawaii Regional Cuisine served on fine china, or eating "local" with a plate lunch - there is much to do, see, shop and taste in our city. Yours to experience and partake. And Hawaii is much more than Honolulu, as each of the Islands of Hawaii are unique, offering their own distinct experiences and flavors for you to enjoy. We encourage you to discover your own island paradise before or after our Convention in Honolulu.

The Lions and Leos of Hawaii look forward to welcoming you once again, with that Aloha spirit. A hui hou! See you soon!

Lions who help clubs reactivate and become healthy and viable may be qualified to receive the Club Rebuilding Award.

Dear MD and D GMT Coordinators

This year is coming to a closure, I would like to thank you all for all the efforts that you have made to make this year a success.  Our area, 6F, has done well regarding membership development, but I urge you once again to close the back door so that our efforts are not in vain.

One of the focus areas that we had this year, was to increase membership in clubs that have members less than 20.  We have an excellent tool from LCI which I have attached herewith,  which will assist us to motivate Lions, especially Zone and Region chairpersons, to bring these clubs up to the 20 member mark.  Please incorporate this tool into your growth plans for next year.

Club Rebuilding Award
Lions who help clubs reactivate and become healthy and viable may be qualified to receive the Club Rebuilding Award. To qualify, the club must:
Be in good standing for 12 months
Have a minimum of 20 members
Have initiated a new service project
Filed monthly membership reports for 12 months
Paid the club account in full

Let us try to communicate this to all concerned and lift the clubs who are below 20 members.

Yours sincerely

1.4 MILLION MEMBERS STRONG AND GROWING!..... MAY MESSAGE FROM INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT JOE PRESTON

Dear Lions,

I wanted to share my May message to club leaders with you.

I am congratulating club leaders for helping Lions Clubs International surpass 1.4 million members. To keep our momentum going, I'm encouraging clubs to continue inviting new members and keep current members involved. I am sharing some customizable PR resources (by email) to help clubs promote their Worldwide Week of Service project during May 16–22. I am also asking club leaders to promote the Centennial Celebration Membership Awards so we can reward our Lions for strengthening their clubs and growing our great association.

We have surpassed 1.4 million members in Lions Clubs International thanks to you! We couldn't have achieved this important milestone without your hard work and commitment to growing and strengthening your club. Let's keep the momentum going!

Encourage your Lions to continue inviting new members to expand your service and strengthen your membership. And it all starts by asking one friend, family member or neighbor to join your club.

Focus on keeping your members involved in club activities and service projects that matter to your members. When Lions feel the satisfaction of service, they'll keep coming back for more.

I am proud of what we've achieved so far, and I know we can achieve even more. Let's work together to finish the year strong and keep our great association growing!

Together in service,

Joe Preston
