INTERNATIONAL VACCINATION WEEK COMMEMORATION - TANZANIA

AZANIA CLUB PLANT TREES TO PRESERVE THE ENVIRONMENT

on 26th April 2015, Lions Club of Dar es Salaam Azania planted 300 trees at a school (still under construction) which is to be donated to support orphans and low income earners. 

The school is expected to accommodate not less than 550 boarding students and currently, 8 staff houses are under construction in line with other school buildings. area covered by trees is 20 acres. 

PWANI CLUB CARRY OUT FOOD DISTRIBUTION ACTIVITY AT OCEAN ROAD HOSPITAL

On 20th April 2015 Lions Clubs of Dar es Salaam Pwani carried out Food Distribution and Poverty Alleviation Activity at Cancer Hospital, Ocean Road. 

The club donated Lunch i.e. Rice and Maharage, Water, Bathing Soap and Washing Powder to 250 patients. Total cost of the activity was TShs 540,000.00

Convenor Lion Shamim thanked the donors and all the members for coming together to serve for such a noble cause. Ms. Sushmita (Well Wisher) thanked the Lions for coming forward and joining her in this cause. She said she belongs to the group “Service of God” which includes 5 members. They cook food for cancer patients at Cancer hospital three times a week and serve them. She also mentioned that “The hands are holier than the prayers to God”. 

The Lord has shown the path and he is the Parent to all of us. We are answerable to him and not anyone else. President Lion Collin inspired from the words of Ms. Sushmita mentioned that we will continue to join hands with you whenever it is possible.

TRAINING AT THE WOMEN MEMBERSHIP AND PARTICIPATION PROGRAMME IN DAR ES SALAAM

A robust programme on the captioned was held in Dar es Salaam on 26^th April 2015 at Bawarchi Restaurant.

The Programme was under the Women Membership and Participation Chairperson Lion Nimira and it involved a myriad of activities. It attracted over 60- participants who included Lions, prospective Lions and community members who were to be assisted. In attendance was also the Immediate Past District Governor Lion Wilson, RC Lion Shiraz Rashid and ZC Lion Larry Shah.

However, and apart from the poverty alleviation foci, the principal effect was to speak to the attendees on the following:

1.       General Introduction and Orientation to Lions and Non Lions by GMT Lion Abdul Majid Khan

2.       Membership Development by FVDG Lion Hyder Gangji

3.       Humanitarian Services by FDI Lion Rizwan Qadri

I am now pleased to report that the training was well delivered by all 3 speakers, was interactive and confirmed to add to our den as follows:

1.       Institutional based all girls Leo Club from DMI (Spring of Hope)

2.       6 Prospective members – Amani Club

3.       4 Prospective members – Host Club

4.       1 Prospective member – Pwani Club

5.       1 Prospective LEO – Pwani Leos

While I thank the exceptional effort by Lion Nimira, I feel prudent to congratulate Dar Lions to have committed to spread the message of Lionism enthusiastically.

CLIMAX OF AFRICA VACCINATION WEEK AT KWEEN DISTRICT

In a bid to promote and encourage vaccination in Africa, Lions Clubs International and other partners have been involved in mobilization and sensitization of communities to embrace vaccination in order to save life. The theme of the week was Vaccination a Gift of Life.

The vaccination activity was yesterday 30^th April, 2015 climaxed at Kween District, Eastern Uganda where it had been observed that the vaccination schedule was not being followed and completed. Medically it is recommended that each child be vaccinated five (5) times before the first birthday anniversary but this was not the case in Kween District hence the activity yesterday.

The activity attracted many mothers and children to the venue including members of the community who were educated on vaccination. Ministry of Health as the lead government agency was glad for partnering with UNICEF, World Health Organization and Lions Clubs International in this activity now and in the future. The Ministry of Health pledged to continue supporting Kween District on vaccination.

The civic and political leaders committed themselves to support the program. Lions Clubs will future in put emphasis on their involvement in routine vaccination in order to ensure better coverage and access. Lions Clubs of Kumi Central, Busia Greater and Kampala participated in the invent. Lion Dr James Opio of Kumi Central immunized one child on behalf of Lions Clubs.
