AMANI CLUB PROVIDE FOOD TO CANCER PATIENTS AND STREET CHILDREN AS THEY KINDLE EFFORT TO CREATE A LEO CLUB AT MZIZIMA SECONDARY SCHOOL

Lions Club of Dar es salaam Amani on 26th October jointly with the Aga Khan Mzizima secondary school's prospective Leos carried out a grand activity at Ocean Road cancer Institute. 

A total of 300 patients and 150 street boys were provided with ready made rice maharagwe Curry, fruits, water and milk.

The activity was witnessed by Region Chairperson Lion Shiraz Rashid who also contributed TShs 50,000 towards medicines for a cancer patient. 

The total cost of activities was TShs 600, 000. The Lion members present were 10, prospective Leos students 17 and total hours spent 5.

1. The Campaign unfolded in July 2014. Project Coordinator Lion Abdul Majid Khan announced core team and members of the MRI Campaign in Tanzania.

2. Blog (mritanzania.blogspot.com) was set up to inform Lion members of the current events taking place.

3. Budget was approved for implementation of the exercise.

4. Meetings with Ministry of Health and Social Welfare were carried out in order to establish Lions role in the campaign. Ministry pointed out that they would include an integrated plan by providing medicines for de-worming and preventing Elephantiasis in adults.

5. Lions were asked to carry out Advocacy, Communications and Social Mobilisation (ASSM) jointly with other stakeholders including GAVI Alliance, Red Cross, LDS Charities, UNICEF, US-AID and WHO. Guidelines for the exercise are established.

6. Lions carry out Orientation meeting to sensitise all Lion Convenors on 14th August 2014. Meeting takes place at Quality Plaza.

7. Lions are asked to sustain the programme at Regional Levels through ACSM education they received at the Orientation. Lions representation in Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, Tanga, Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Mwanza and Shinyanga confirm steadfast support.

8. IEC material, T-shirts, banners and funds are sent to all upcountry clubs and regions to ensure ACSM is carried out as planned.

9. Social Mobilisation was enhanced at regional level through Roadshows and Street Criers. Lions stick posters and give out fliers at street and house levels.

10. Billboards create awareness.

11. On 12th October Leos join hands to sensitization of affluent areas of Dar es Salaam.

12. All Lion Convenors meet Regional Administration Secretary, Regional Medical Officers and District Medical Officers and officials in their respective Municipalities so as to set up a joint effort.

13. Core team carry out media drive from 6th October by going public through Radio, Televised programmes and Newspapers.

14. MRI launch was carried out on 18th October at National Level in Dodoma by Minister of Health, Hon. Seif. Core team attends the launch and speaks to the august gathering on Lions role and support.

15. Launch in respective regions are carried out simultaneously. However, Dar es Salaam invites Dr. Mengi to officiate their Launch on 20th October.

16. Clubs all over the country provided a great support to the initiative.

17. Turnout recorded at all centres confirm a very good response. MOHSW promised to provide statistics after completion of the campaign on 24th October.

MOSHI KIBO HAND OVER BOOKS TO MSANDAKA DEAF CENTRE

Lions of Moshi Kibo, Measles & Rubella Campaign co-ordinator Mr. Benjamin from the US with Lion leaders PDG Abdul Majid Khan and PDG Wilson N. Ndesanjo escorted by Region Chairperson Lion Balraj Matharu, Club President Lion Julian Jones and Lion treasurer Vishal Pithia handed over books to the students worth TZS 100,000/- at Msandaka Lions Deaf Centre on 23rd Oct ' 14. 

Furthermore, PDG Lion Abdul Majid Khan re-captured good old memories of a classroom he had officially opened few years back. A project done by lions Club of Moshi Kibo under the President Lion Navraj Singh Bhamra.

KUMI CLUB OBSERVES WORLD SERVICE DAY THROUGH AIDING THE ELDERLY

In remembrance of 6th October, the World Service Day, Members of Lions Club of Kumi Central in demonstrating the objectives of Lionism  made a visit to Ocupo Lawrence an elderly Leprosy patient who is homeless and has lived at Kumi hospital for forty ( 40) years.

Ocupo is old and child less, he has no fingers, no toes and is totally blind, he cannot see and as a leprosy patient he is unable to fend for himself. Lawrence can however identify people he has known by their voices.

Despite his age and disability  Ocupo is affectionate with his elderly  wife who keeps and cares for him, they love each other and she is the one who identifies visitors for him. Despite their situation they were happy to receive the Lions.

The visit by the Lions was to promote the good of humanity and celebrate the birth of Lions Clubs International. Its the day for Lionism, a day Lions come out to help those in need.The Club gave Ocupo and wife some essential items that included sugar, soap and money among others.

Old age comes along with  suffering and difficulties in the lives of many people. In many instances the elderly can not fend for themselves. As they age up housing becomes a challenge and complicated illnesses take a toll on many.

Members of Lions Club of Kumi Central visited an old couple today. The couple do not have any descent housing for themselves, the roof top of their mud and wattle house is licking.  The old man is bed ridden and suffering from high blood pressure, he can hardly speak.

The members of Lions Club of Kumi Central appreciating the need to offer support mobilized and bought some ten(10) Iron sheets as  contribution to improve the housing status of the old couple.

Lions will always strive to reach out to those in need of help. There was no other better day to offer  this support  than today. Obele Yepusa is in the most difficult moment of his life as he is very sick and bed ridden, and we pray for Gods providence in keeping and sustaining his life at this difficult moment.

The state of the couple , housing situation and status of Obele  is shown in the pictures below including the support of Iron sheets the Club offered to the couple.

KUMI CLUB PRESENT CHARTER TO THE NEWLY FORMED LEO CLUB OF WIGGINS SECONDARY SCHOOL

To be a sponsoring Club means supporting the Leo leadership to take over the offices they were elected to. Helping them understand the philosophy of Lionism and what being a Leo entails.

On 7th October, 2014, Lions Club of Kumi Central Installed the Leo Club Officials of Leo Club of Wiggins Secondary School, handed the Charter certificate to the Leo Club and handed the Club members their Lapel Pins.

This is the last Club sponsored by Lions Club of Kumi Central to have a successful installation ceremony. The Leo President shared a moment of joy with the school Head teacher seeing their club officially receiving their certificate of recognition.

The candidate class were well oriented and given some wri​ting materials to help them in sitting their examinations.

KUMI CLUB PROVES - "JUST ASK 1" INITIATIVE

Friday 17^th, October, 2014 marked another day in the life, growth and positive health status of Lions Club of Kumi Central. In promoting the Club membership, eight (8) members were inducted into the Club last evening. 

The ceremony was presided over by the Zone Chairperson of Zone 11 Lion Joseph Onange. The induction of eight members take the club membership to now  fifty two(52).

The new club members were encouraged to hold the motto of Lions Clubs International and work towards helping the less fortunate in the communities  while living up to the ethics and code of conduct of Lions Clubs International. The Induction programme is shown hereunder.
